2009 Learned Society Cup Dragon Boat Race

The MMNC Division has won the Learned Society Cup Dragon Boat Race on 16 May 2009.  The race was held at the Hong Kong Government Dockyard and was participated by HKIE-MMNC Division, IMechE-Hong Kong Branch, ASME-Hong Kong Section, Hong Kong Joint Branch of RINA & IMarEST and The Hong Kong Institute of Marine Technology (HKIMT).  This year, MMNC formed a big team with Ir CY Fong, Ir HK Leung, Ir Dr Vincent Ho, Ir Michael Chung, Ir Lau Wing Hang, Ir Vincent Liu, TS Cheung, BY Fan, CK Fung, Lai Kan, YF Cheng, YF Cheung, CH Cheung, M K Fung, Johnny Lee, CO Yau, Alex Luk, Catter To, Michael Lee, Owen Luk, WC Tsang, Anthony Man and Ir SC Wong (team captain).

 

To prepare for the race, the MMNC team has undergone dragon boat training in three previous weekends in Sai Kung.  On the racing day of 16 May 2009, there was occasional light shower and the weather was perfect for dragon boat race.  MMNC teammates have prepared well in their final warm-up before the race with determination to achieving the best result.  At the sound of the whistle, the dragon boat race started and our rowers pulled their weight to the rhythm of the drummer in unison with full demonstration of teamwork spirit of the dragon boat.  The competition was very fierce and performance of each team was very close.  Finally, the MMNC dragon boat was the first one hitting the finish line.

 

The Learn Society Cup dragon boat race attracted more than 100 members and participants from the five engineering societies.  On the same day, a joint team among the engineering societies was also formed to compete with the other organisational teams in the Marine Department’s invitation race.  The event finished with the presentation of the trophies.  Afterwards, all participating teams joined together to celebrate the success of the event with cold beer and wonderful food.  MMNC will keep our team spirit and defend our championship in future.
