Technical Seminar ¨C Survive the Aircraft Cabin: An
Introduction to the Aircraft Environment Control System
The first
seminar organized by SIG-AME was successfully held on 30 May 2009 at the HKIE
Headquarter and attracted over 60 attendees. The speaker was Mr. K.C. Lai, who
is an aircraft maintenance instructor performing aircraft maintenance knowledge
examiner and practical assessor.
Mr. Lai first
summarized the topic by an interesting poem that written by himself. He then
explained each element to survive the cabin, including (1) the Air supply, (2)
Cabin Pressure Control, (3) Temperature Control, (4) Humidification System, (5)
Ozone Regulation and (6) Air Legistration. A detail explanation was also given on the
mechanism of Air Cycle Machine (ACM) which played an important role in air
conditioning. The audiences were amused by Mr. Lai¡¯s lively illustrations and
practical real life examples that Mr Lai has gained
over his 40 years of work.
The seminar
ended with a well-engaged Q&A session and a vote of thanks given by Mr.
Jack Lo, the conveyor of SIG-AME and Ir. Barry Lee, chairman of HKIE MMNC in
2008-2009. The organizers would like to take this opportunity to thank Mr. Lai
again for his vivid and informative presentation.
